Studied at the Architectural Association from 1969 to 1975. Hon. Treasurer and Council Member of the RIBA 2002-2006, President of the Architectural Association 1993-1995 (Council Member 1987-1997), member of the English Heritage Urban Panel (since 2010), chair of the Sheffield Urban Design Review Panel (2006-2009), member of CABE’s Project Enabling Panel (since 1999), RIBA Validation Panel, Westminster City Council’s Public Art Advisory Panel and trustee of the Michael Ventris Memorial Fund. John has been an external examiner at the universities of Nottingham and North London, and a visiting tutor at the Architectural Association, and the universities of Michigan, Georgia Tech., Illinois at Chicago and Pennsylvania. He was chair RIBA Awards juries in 2005 and 2007. He was a keynote speaker at the European Conferences on Solar Architecture in 1993 & 1996 and is a member of the advisory panel for the EU EDUCATE programe. John has worked in London, Rome and Santiago de Chile. From 1981 to 1996 John was a partner at Michael Hopkins & Partners (joined 1978) and is a Founder Director of Pringle Richards Sharratt.

Penny Richards

Studied at the Architectural Association from 1969 to 1975 and University of Helsinki 1975 on a British Council research scholarship. Penny taught at the Architectural Association 1978-1979, Oxford Brookes University 1990-91, and was external examiner at South Bank University 1991-1993, University of Westminster 1994-1996, and the Bartlett, University College London since 2003. She was visiting tutor to the Graduate School University of Pennsylvania 2000-2001. She was a Council Member at the Architectural Association 1987-1991, and 1999-2003, and was Vice President 2002-2003. She served on the RIBA Education Committee 1999-2004, and RIBA Education Trust Fund Committee since 1998. She was an assessor for the Civic Trust Awards from 2001-2003 and is currently a Reader for the Queen’s Anniversary Prize. Penny has worked in Helsinki and London, was a partner at Pringle + Richards Architects, and is a Founder Director of Pringle Richards Sharratt.

Ian Sharratt
Ian Sharratt
MA (RCA) - Director

Studied at Manchester College of Art & Design from 1969 to 1972 and The Royal College of Art from 1972 to 1976. In 2003 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Sheffield Hallam University. Ian is a member of the Crossrail Design Review Panel, has been a validator for The Open University on courses at the Architectural Association and Hon Treasurer of the RIBA Building Industry Trust. For 9 years he was a Governor and Chair of the Grounds and Building Committee at King Alfred’s School. Ian has taught and lectured widely including at The Royal College of Art, The Architectural Association, Kingston University and was a visiting tutor to the Graduate School of the University of Pennsylvania, 2000-2001. From 1981 to 1996 Ian was a partner at Michael Hopkins & Partners (joined 1976) and is a Founder Director of Pringle Richards Sharratt.
